Ms. Venezuela Takes the Crown Again

Today, August 24, 2009, Ms. Venezuela, Stefanie Fernandez, was entitled the new Miss Universe. Venezuela has made a record of grabbing the crown for 2 consecutive years and winning the title for the 6th time since the pageant has started.

I was very disappointed knowing that no candidate from the Asian countries has made it to the top 15 and it's more disappointing that Ms. Philippines, Bianca Manalo, wasn't able to get a single award. Unlike the previous, they get awards like Ms. Congeniality and Ms. Photogenic.

"I'm happy with the results. I know I represented the Philippines well, I did my best and what's more important for me is that I gained friends. ", said Ms. Philippines.

Though she's happy with the result, I know that it's really heart-breaking for her. Many are questioning why there were no Asian who made it to even the top 15 but we can't really tell. For me, Ms. Philippines should have been picked to compete for the top 5 because she's pretty and smart. I thought that this will be the Philippines' time again since it has been 36 years since the Philippines won the Miss Universe courtesy of Margie Moran in 1973.

I hope that the next year, Ms. Philippines would be hailed again as the new Ms. Universe for us to prove that we should not be underestimated. And I will continue to pray for that over the years.

Maybe there's no moment that's more heart-breaking than to put the crown to the new title holder but I know it's not that hard for the previous Ms. Universe since the new title holder is her very own countrymen.
